Shared Ground CPD: Migration and Integration in the UK
At a time when migration and its history in the Global North is becoming increasingly controversial, we are embarking on a journey to develop training for teachers towards a critical understanding of migration from a peace education perspective. Our research has how that cohesion is best achieved by emphasising the shared history and shared future between refugees, migrants and host communities. We are listening to and weaving in perspectives from the Global South to strategically develop, integrate and join up fragmented thinking, work and material in this area.
We ask:
- How can we explore and understand the realities and complexities of attitudes to and experiences of migration and integration in 21st Century UK?
- What critical insights and approaches will enable schools to model best practise of integration and cohesion and equip their learners with knowledge, skills and values to aspire to and act for a more cohesive society?
The Connecting Classrooms through Global Learning programme will enable us to reach teachers and students in a diverse range of schools across England to reflect a cross section of socio-economic status, ethnic backgrounds, levels of migration and age groups.
