CREATIVE COMMUNITIES: Developing Learner-led Active Citizenship Initiatives in Tower Hamlets

Complementing our Europe-wide @The Heart of Communities project is its inception, the Creative Communities project in Tower Hamlets, which continues in its third year.

The local project continues within the larger European manifestation, shaping and responding to what is coming back from partners. The project trains students to strengthen their local community relationships by engaging local organisations through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Young people then cascade their learning with the rest of the student body / School Council to develop critical thinking skills and pupil’s voice.

Teachers undergo training on ‘Using the Global Goals with your school council’ and build their knowledge and competence using the goals as a methodology for addressing complex global issues in their classroom practice, alongside teachers from EU partner countries.
